Technical Info

Buying a memory foam mattress via the internet may at first appear a daunting task. With so many choices where do you start?

Here at Internet Memory Mattress we have simplified this by offering our 100% UK manufactured memory foam products manufactured to the highest standard.

The Technical Stuff
Our memory foam product range is manufactured by the UK's market leaders of memory foam sleep products. All mattresses have an overall depth of 20cm or 25cm and are fitted with a removable cover for ease of cleaning. We provide a selection of memory foam depths extending from 5cm to 10cm and foam densities from 40 to 60 kg/m3. Depending upon personal preference we offer a firmness choice ranging from a premium softer sleep to a deluxe medium firm. All memory foam is bonded to a supporting reflex foam base made with British Vita foam.

The ability to relieve pressure points and offer a more comfortable sleeping position is why memory foam initially achieved so much success within the medical profession. But how does pressure form in the first place?

When you lie on a traditional coiled or conventional foam mattress your body weight pulls you down, but these springs react by pushing back against you. The skin and blood vessels are caught in the middle, squeezed by the gravity force of your body weight and the upwards force of the mattress.

This causes pressure points which restricts circulation, resulting in discomfort and sometimes pain. With a visco elastic memory foam mattress there is no air left in the cells to push up against you and cause discomfort. Air is dispersed to adjoining cells and the visco elastic foam simply contours to your body shape to provide long term balanced support and comfort to your whole body.

Pressure points form at the shoulder blades, buttocks, head, heels, hips, and elbows which may result in numbness, stiffness or even pain over time. This is a major factor why we toss and turn at night as our body attempts to find a more comfortable sleep position.

A memory foam mattress closely conforms to your individual body shape, cradling your body efficiently and distributing pressure over the whole surface. This reduces the need to toss and turn by around 80% resulting in a deeper more restful sleep.

See our Memory Foam page for the many benefits of memory foam.

Which memory foam mattress is best suited for me?
A memory foam mattress is a completely different concept to a traditional spring mattress and therefore cannot be rated soft or hard in the conventional manner.

It is now widely accepted within the medical field that a traditional coiled mattress is not necessarily the ideal solution for providing the appropriate body support. Emphasis is now being placed on evenly distributing body weight in order to achieve the correct body support. Memory foam has amazing moulding characteristics and will mould to your body shape, spreading your body weight evenly over the surface of your mattress, allowing you a deeper and more restful sleep.

Light Build: If you are of a light build the New Horizon 50 Deluxe, New Horizon 50 Premium and New Horizon Premier Airflow mattresses are all suitable. However, if you prefer a more luxurious snug cosy feel then the New Horizon 75 Premium would be an appropriate alternative.

Medium Build: For persons of a medium build there are several options including the New Horizon 75 Deluxe, New Horizon 75 Premium and New Horizon Premier Airflow. Should you prefer a more luxurious snug cosy feel to your mattress then the New Horizon 100 Premium would also be a suitable choice.

Heavy Build: If you are on the heavier side we would recommend you select a mattress from the New Horizon 100 Deluxe, New Horizon 100 Premium and New Horizon Premier Airflow range.

What's the difference between the Deluxe and Premium Memory Foam Mattresses? Our Premium range offers a slightly softer feel (medium feel), but without compromising the quality. Ideal for those who prefer a slightly softer mattress. The Deluxe range provides a slightly firmer feel to your mattress, but without being too firm (medium / firm).

What about the New Horizon Premier Airflow mattress? Suitable for all weights, the New Horizon Premier Airflow is engineered to allow a cooler dryer sleeping experience with excellent moisture management properties. This mattress incorporates specifically designed corrugated air channels to the top surface of memory foam to provide increased airflow for that extra personal comfort. This unique mattress also combines all the benefits of memory foam, but with the advantage of a 5cm LayTec middle section that delivers the traditional spring feeling of a conventional mattress to offer supreme comfort and overall body support.

All mattresses are available in 20cm / 8 inches or 25cm / 10 inches depths.
